Château Life
A world frozen in time, Epinguet offers an opportunity to live surrounded by history. Built in 1751, the château has been home to a Count, the Pope's nephew, the Nazi's and a French admiral. It stood empty for several decades until it was bought by the Berridge family in 1991 and brought back to life. We have exclusive use of the entire property and accommodation is split between the château and the “gites”, barns now converted into residences. Students room together in doubles in same sex accommodation, divided either by floor or by building. Classes take place in our 300-year-old barn converted into a theatre and larger rooms converted into studios. There is a student lounge and Wi-Fi throughout the property. Read about the history of the château and see pictures at www.chateaulemontepinguet.com.
Trips and Excursions
Normandy, France is one of the most beautiful and culturally rich regions in all of Europe. The program includes full day excursions to The American Cemetery at Omaha Beach, one of the five beaches that make up the D-Day Landings and site of a hard-fought battle by American infantry troupes on June 6, 1944. We also attend the Bayeux Festival, home to the 900-year-old Bayeux Tapestry an embroidered cloth which depicts the Norman Conquest of England and spend the day at Mont St Michel, a thousand year old monastery atop a tidal island. You'll also enjoy trips to local French markets, cafes, châteaus and gardens, the beautiful beaches at Carteret and Bricquebec, a medieval village with a castle dating back to the 11th century.
