Overview
Now in it's second summer, Generate is unique program dedicated entirely to the making and premiering of original work. This program welcomes all artistic disciplines including Theatre, Musical Theatre, Film, Dance, Music, Studio Art, Photography, Graphic Design, Playwrighting and Screenwriting. You’ll make both solo and small group work and collaborate with artists across the disciplines. Your song might be featured in the dance piece, your artwork might promote a film, and along the way you’ll be personally mentored by professional artists who want to share their experience and love of creating with you. Expand your skills, build your portfolio or audition repertoire, prepare for college and meet young artists from across the country at this high-energy gathering of creative minds that culminates in our 2-day Generate Festival.
Workshops and Studio Time
Workshops, studio time, and one-to-one mentoring form the backbone of our curriculum at Generate. The artistic process is highly valued and you’ll be encouraged to play, experiment and push your own boundaries as you explore what you want to create for our Generate Festival. A series of Technique Builder Workshops will build your skills and spark your creative ideas and energy. From Life Drawing to Tap Dance and Lighting Design to Music Composition, there are workshops for every interest and you are welcome to cross disciplines and learn something new. Afternoons emphasize student-led learning and this time will be spent in the studios and and rehearsal spaces collaborating with your fellow artists and faculty mentor as you move your projects from concept to completion.
Generate/2021 Festival
The program culminates in our Generate/2021 Festival, a 2-day celebration of the creative spirit open to the local Santa Barbara community, family and invited guests. There will be film premieres, gallery shows, concerts, dance and theatre performances that take place all over campus along with Q&A sessions with the artists. A gala dinner/dance and awards ceremony will take place on the final night, celebrating the accomplishments of our young artists. All of your finished work will be professionally presented and documented in print and/or on film for college applications and further professional development.
